Trip Overview

You will pass through fog forest jungle draped with orchids, pass through Rai villages with their incredibly varied use of bamboo

Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world and one of the toughest mountains to summit. The trek which moves along remote parts of Nepal through fog forests draped with orchids is not as hard as the expedition but still is demanding.

The trek starts at Tumlingtar and passes Barun Valley before reaching the base camp. Because camping is only allowed at selected areas, trekkers have to follow a strict itinerary.

Barun Valley is a bird watcher’s paradise

This trek offers a wide diversity of ecosystems, cultures and incredible natural beauty in a little-frequented region.

Earthquake update:

This trail is relatively unscathed by the earthquake and is safe for trekking.
