Gokyo Ri (Everest Sherpa Village) Trek |21 Days

Trip Highlights

Gokyo Ri rewards you with an awe-inspiring view over Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu.

Trip Overview

Khumbu region is not only famous for its proximity to Mt. Everest, but also for its Sherpa villagesand monasteries.

Everest Sherpa Village Trek, a relatively less populated trail than the commercialized Everest Base Camp Trek is considered as a fine alternative route to the Everest Base Camp.

The trek starts from Lukla passes through Phakding and reaches Namche on the 2nd day of the trek. Here the trail breaks away from the regular Everest Base Camp route and moves towards more traditional Sherpa villages of Thame, Khumjung, Dole, Machermo and Gokyo before climbing up to Gokyo Ri at 5360m.

Gokyo Ri rewards you with an awe-inspiring view over Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Makalu.

From Gokyo Ri the trail descends to Phortse and again climbs up to Dingboche and Lobuche before it reaches Gorak Shep at 5184m. From Gorak Shep the trek finally ascends to Everest Base Camp at 5357m on the 14th day of the trek.

The climb can get tiring and Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can give your that extra headache but the sense of triumph at the end of the trek will make every step of yours worthwhile.

Earthquake update:

This trail is relatively unscathed by the earthquake and is safe for trekking.
