Although newer routes are attracting more tourists, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek the old favorite with brilliant sights and distinctively Nepali villages still boasts the true spirit of trekking in Nepal.

The panoramic view of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Dhaulagiri along the trail makes this short trek even more enchanting.

You start your trek at Nayapul and follow a rocky path along the banks of Modi Khola to reach Birethanti. You then pass through Ghandruk, Tadapani and Ghorepani before making an early morning excursion to Poon Hill and be mesmerized by mountain views and the stunning sunrise over the Himalayan panorama.

This is a perfect route for those who get nervous with longer treks and also for those with tight schedules.

Earthquake update:

This trail is relatively unscathed by the earthquake and is safe for trekking.

Equipment List

Before You Go

All visitors except the Indian nationals must hold a passport and valid visa in order to enter Nepal. Visas can be obtained at the Nepalese diplomatic missions and consulates abroad and also at entry points in Nepal. In order to obtain a visa at the airport or any of the land entry points, you are required to complete a visa form and provide a recent passport photograph and payment in cash.
Visa Charges
Gratis visa for 30 days available only for tourists of SAARC countries
Multiple entry 15 days – US$ 25 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry 30 days – US$ 40 or equivalent convertible currency
Multiple entry 90 days – US$ 100 or equivalent convertible currency
Tourist Visa Extension
If you wish to extend your visa, you can do this at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu
The visa extension fee for 15 days or less is USD 30 or equivalent convertible currency
The visa extension fee for more than 15 days is USD 2 per day
Tourist visas can be extended for a maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January to December)
